Dear friends,

The media certainly had fun with the Christian faith this week. Just about every major newspaper and network headlined: “Did Jesus Have a Wife?”, “Was Jesus Married?”, or some similar sensational claim. Although the headlines were sensational, the whole thing is rather silly. Consider the following.

Dear friends,

It’s Labor Day weekend. Summer is officially at its end. For children, Labor Day means the start of school. For most adults it means a long weekend. According to the US Government, Labor Day “celebrates the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of America.”1 The Library of Congress informs us that Labor Day “emerged from the ranks of organized labor at a time when they wanted to demonstrate the strength of their burgeoning movement and inspire improvements in their working conditions.” 2 Political spin.

Dear friends,

On Saturday night many of you will join us for the Movie in the Park that Cornerstone is sponsoring. Providing a wholesome family event is one way we seek to serve our neighbors. I hope you can join us at Cotton Tail Park to watch the children’s movie Despicable Me. Check out our web site for the details.

Being empty nesters, Michele and I don’t watch too many children’s movies. So I thought I’d go on line and see if any pastors had written about it. One pastor had an interesting insight. He asked who was the most despicable person in the Bible.
